Bustard Head, Queensland, Australia: lighthouse keeper's cottage
George and Margaret Goodfellow lived at Bustard Head from 1886 to 1889; an isolated interlude for town folk whose grandmothers were school teachers, embroidery merchants and wives of a druggist, painter, organist, soldiers and farmers.

The Goodfellow family lived in south west England: Wincanton and Glastonbury in Somerset County, south of Bristol, and from the 1850s in London.

George Goodfellow and Margaret Johnston migrated to Australia in 1874 to Queensland.  They lived in Brisbane and between 1886 and 1889 at Bustard Head.  In the 1890s the family moved to New South Wales, where George and Margaret lived in the Sydney suburb of Auburn.

George Goodfellow and Margaret Johnston were married at the Manse of the Presbyterian Church in Ann Street Brisbane in January 1874.  Their children were born at Clarence Street and Catherine Street, South Brisbane.

5 London, England  London

George Goodfellow lived in London with his parents, Grace and Henry Goodfellow, after they moved from Glastonbury in about 1853.  Grace Fitzpatrick was born in France, lived in London in 1841 and Somerset from 1847, when she married Henry Goodfellow. In London they lived in Pancras, Hammersmith and Fulham.

Grace's mother, Jane Fitzpatrick lived at Islington, London with her daughters Grace and Jane in 1841.  She moved to several residences around Hammersmith and Holborn, before moving to live in Essex with her daughter Mary and son-in-law Thomas Howe.

Grace Fitzpatrick married Henry Goodfellow in 1847 in Glastonbury, Somerset.  Henry was born in Wincanton, Somerset.  They moved to London in about 1853.

Both Grace Fitzpatrick and her daughter-in-law Margaret Johnston were born in France: Grace in Boulogne-sur-Mer, Picardie in 1823; Margaret in Paris about 1852.

Grace Fitzpatrick's father John's family lived in County Laois, Ireland.  John was born about 1786 and married Jane Howe in London in 1820.




















11 Evercreech, Somerset, England  Somerset  Bridle family

Susanna Bridle was born in 1778 in Evercreech, east of Glastonbury and north of Wincanton (see Somerset map above).  She married John Jeanes in 1799.  He was an auctioneer in Wincanton.

John Fitzpatrick's ancestors were from Ballagh, Rathdowney Parish, County Laois, Ireland.  His father Charles married Catherine Purcell.  The marriage settlement on 10 February 1747, between John's grandfather John Fitzpatrick of Ballagharahin and Dymphna Shanahan was in the Registry of Deeds.
